Assessment, characterization, demolition, asbestos and lead-based paint abatement, and site restoration of the 1 million ft2 Beacon manufacturing site covering 14 acres in Swannanoa, NC. Debris removal and disposal was complicated by asbestos and lead-based paint from the building that was co-mingled in the 57,000 tons of debris that was removed. The instability of the building following a fire made location, identification, and extraction of chemicals especially hazardous in certain areas of the site. Clean-up was complicated by 15,000 gallons of No. 6 fuel oil that were released during the fire.
