Headquarters Engineering support for the Single Shell Tanks retrieval activities at the Hanford Site in Washington. Activities included the design of pumps and transfer lines, development of hydraulic analysis procedures, determinations for solids and liquid levels, and operation methods for waste transfer to Double Shell Tanks.
Engineering services needed to safely obtain a series of subsurface soil radiation measurements and soil samples from a spent nuclear fuel tank farm at the Idaho National Laboratory. Designed an adjustable height work platform, auger drill guide, vacuum dust shroud, drill rig weather enclosure, sample handling tent, cold sample preparation box with vacuum system, and electrical distribution system.
Engineering and technical services for the identification and selection of potential plant locations to meet the strict requirements of a large-scale ethanol production facility. Detailed studies were conducted on the availability of required utilities, including electricity, natural gas, roads, rail, water supply, and waste water disposal. Studies were performed addressing the availability of feedstock, employee pools, and traffic patterns.
Engineering fabrication and operations services for the design-build of a portable whey powder injection system to be used in support of in situ bioremediation (ISB) projects. The system included a trailer-mounted pump, screw feeder, support frame, and other associated components needed to efficiently mix and use whey powder, provided in 2,000-lb bulk packaging, as a nutrient source in the implementation of ISB remediation activities. The system allowed for a range of different flow rates and nutrient concentrations to meet remediation requirements at various sites.
Design-build services for a 15-acre landfill cover for an industrial use landfill adjacent to the Los Alamos County airport, NM. Designed an innovative hybrid cover that included MatCon paving for the airport expansion area, vegetated soil cover for outlying areas, rock armor for shallow side slopes, mechanically-stabilized earthen and concrete retaining wall for steep slopes and stormwater control features.
