Project Experience

Preparation of seven site-specific health and safety plans and accident prevention plans in compliance with USACE EM-385-1-1 requirements for environmental remediation systems and project sites. Provided oversight and conducted surveillance for site safety officers and reviewed all exposure monitoring data, determined PPE and medical surveillance requirements, evaluated engineering controls, provided interpretation of all health and safety regulatory requirements, and interfaced with USACE and regulatory counterparts.

Preparation and implementation of health and safety plans and 29 CFR 1926 compliance documents for remediation of various sites across the State of Idaho, including 10 abandoned mine sites. Established and managed all medical surveillance and reviewed exposure monitoring records, excavation plans, and PPE requirements. Projects included environmental treatment systems and repositories, erosion control for abandoned mine lands contaminated tailings, hazardous materials/waste at illegal dump sites, and emergency response actions for spills. All projects were conducted in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120 HAZWOPER requirements.

Consulting CIH provided direct field industrial safety and hygiene personnel during the retrieval, treatment, and disposal of more than 65,000 cubic meters of transuranic (TRU) mixed waste for the $400M Advance Mixed Waste Treatment Project. Technical support included development of the personnel and area exposure assessments; sampling strategy for beryllium, heavy metals, silica, and physical hazards; and oversight of the chronic beryllium disease prevention program (10 CFR 850) for waste retrieval, assay, and transportation activities.

Safety and health technical services at DOD's White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) High Energy Laser Test Facility (HELSTF), NM. Conducted comprehensive health and safety compliance audits of operational, support, and tenant facilities; advised the HELSTF Director on management of safety deficiencies to enable for re-start of mission critical laser testing, research, and deployment; developed comprehensive HELSTF-wide safety and health programs; and defined emergency response roles and responsibilities for WSMR fire department and HELSTF emergency response team.
